FARMERS FOR

OUR COMMUNITY

Our Local Farm isn’t just about us. Customers, neighbors, friends, family, business associates, the animals, the land, we are all connected. We strive to reconnect people to food & farmer and heal the land with healthy sustainably grown food. We practice regenerative farming techniques that create soil and add nutrients to the earth instead of depleting those resources.
Our pastured chickens (broilers and layers), turkeys, and pigs are fed non-GMO grain that is grown, processed, and sold in North Carolina. That translates into less fossil fuel usage, local businesses being supported, animals raised as humanly as possible, and food that is nutrient dense. Our cattle do not receive grain feed, only lush grasses, legumes, and hay.

ABOUT THE FARMERS

Phil and myself, Kimmie, both grew up in rural towns on acres of beautiful land where we developed a deep respect for the land and the living creatures on it. Originally from Mattawamkeag, Maine, Phil moved to North Carolina nearly twenty years ago. Though trained as a master automotive technician he became intrested in regenerative farming after becoming friends with several Polyface Farm associates. His desire to farm grew as he researched and studied more about our food and farming systems in America. Though I did not originally set out to carry on the family tradition of farming, my life has brought me full circle back to farming. I grew up on a diverse farm in Augusta County, Virginia just several miles away from the world famous Polyface Farm. After attending NC State for my undergraduate and graduate studies I worked in the Raleigh/Durham area. Since becoming a mother I have made my family and the farm my main job. We have three children that are junior farmers. The oldest two, Olivia and Elisah, are responsible for collecting your eggs, processing chickens, and helping feed and water the animals. Josiah is responsible for comedic relief.

Pasture Raised Animals Ability to Beat the Heat

Just as we humans take extra steps when the heat hits so too do our pasture raised animals. We do aid the animals in their quest for coolness, but they are capable on their own. It is quite magnificent to watch each animal type use their natural surroundings to their...

North Carolina Fatback is Back

North Carolina fatback was a staple in the homes across this state and the south only a few generations ago.  Now it is becoming mainstream again as we begin to understand the role good fats (animal fat from pasture raised, GMO-free animals, for example) play in our...

REAL Life on Our Johnston County Farm

When someone says the word farm, what do you envision? Perhaps a field of wildflowers gently swaying in a summer breeze or a rustic old red barn with chickens quaintly pecking the ground in front of it. Maybe you picture large pasture with perfectly bailed hail dotted...
